Hi Neighbor!

Headshot 2.jpeg

My name is Jocelyn Hare.

As Chicagoans, we believe that our city should be a place where all of us can grow and thrive, no matter what we look like, how we worship, or who we love. Whether we live in Kenwood, Hyde Park, Woodlawn, Greater Grand Crossing, or South Shore, we all deserve to enjoy the sandy beaches, lush parks, and historic neighborhoods our community has to offer.

But for far too long, old-school politicians have put profit over people, creating development exclusively for the wealthy and pricing us out of our community. As a longtime resident of the 5th Ward and through my work with The South Side Housing Data Initiative, I’ve seen mom-and-pop businesses shuttered and our neighbors forced to leave the city in search of affordable homes.

The good news is that together, we can preserve the fabric of our community and make the 5th ward a place we can all call home.

I was privileged to work with the great Ms. Mattie Butler of Woodlawn East Community and Neighbors (WECAN), talking to our neighbors and finding out what WE actually need in our communities. Our work together became The South Side Housing Data Initiative, giving us the data we need to create the safe, affordable homes, strong schools, and thriving communities all our families deserve.

Though Ms.Mattie has passed away, her legacy lives on. I see it in her family, in our youth, and in the work our neighbors do every day to make life better for each other.

I’m running for alderman of the 5th ward to bring us together to continue the work Ms. Mattie started by:

  • Leading the fight for affordable homes for every 5th ward family—because having a safe, secure place to live is the foundation of success and prosperity.

  • Keeping our most vulnerable neighbors safe by listening to the needs of our community and ensuring our streets and public transportation are accessible to everyone.

  • Helping our small businesses stay open so they can continue to provide jobs to our families and grow the local economy.

  • Providing neighborhood schools with the resources they need to give all our young people the education they deserve

  • Creating a community where all are welcome, regardless of the color of our skin or the size of our bank account.
